ScotPLOD 2008
Join the ultimate team walking challenge

Friday 6th & Saturday 7th June

The Start

ScotPLOD 2008 starts at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel in Peebles on Friday June 6th Registration will be open from 10pm and we will need all teams to have completed this process by 11pm after which you will need to be present for a safety briefing. All teams will set off together at approximately 11.45pm. Detailed written instructions of the route will be issued to captains and to support drivers one week before the event and additional copies will be available at registration.

During the Walk

The Scotlplod route has been designed by the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team and you will be provided with specific details nearer to the event. The route graphic provides you with a basic outline and maybe a few clues. The whole route will be contained on OS maps xxx & xxx There are eight checkpoints along the route, averaging about four miles apart. Marshals will check walkers in and out at these points. Any deviation from this will result in a loss of valuable scoring points.

If you or any member of your team is unable to complete the walk and withdraws for any reason, you must inform a marshal or call control and ensure transport is arranged via your support crew.

You will be expected to provide your own refreshments and supplies for the walk. However, we will be staffing a hot food breakfast stop, to sheer you up at the half-way point.

The ScotPLOD route would be challenging at any time but with a midnight start the darkness hours will add an extra dimension you may not have experienced before. The kit list requirements are important for the whole walk but even more so for the darkness hours.

Support

Scot Plod 07

The most important member of your team will be your support driver. He/she will be there to greet you at checkpoints. They will be carrying your food supply, fresh water, basic medical kits, and changes of clothing. If you have a mobile signal, you can even call ahead and ask for the kettle to be put on!

Competition

This is a competitive team-walking event. Teams will be able to score points for completing elements of the walk, and there will be a few surprise elements thrown in where you will have the opportunity to gain further points. Scores will be verified at announced at the dinner on the Saturday night.

Safety & Accidents

We issue all walkers health & safety notes prior to the event and at the pre walk briefing session. It is important to note that you will be required at all times to be walking as a team. There are no extra points for individuals who decide to walk solo; in fact you may even lose points!

The Finish

You will cross the finish line back where you started at the Cadrona Hotel  where you will be checked in and de-briefed.

Gala Dinner

Teams will be accommodated at the Cardrona Hotel, on a room sharing basis. Depending on how speedily you have completed the walk you will have at least a few hours to rest, recover, and sleep before we all celebrate together. A great time to buy your arch rivals a beer maybe!

Entering a Team

All you need to do to become part of ScotPLOD 2008 is to form a team of six, five walkers and one support driver. You will need to complete the initial registration form and pay an entry fee of £250.

Sponsorship
