Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity dedicated to funding vital research to help sick babies and children and we are on a mission to save and change children’s lives through medical research, developing treatments, vaccinations and cures. A UK-wide charity, we’ve been funding medical breakthroughs for 70 years, helping to beat polio, fight meningitis, prevent stillbirths and develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy. Our work is now needed more than ever, including in the battle against COVID-19.

To help achieve this, we are seeking to recruit a Head of Direct Marketing to join our team. In this key role, you will be line-managing a team of four Direct Marketing Managers, developing and delivering strategy to grow our weekly lottery income base and maximising donor lifetime value across our other regular giving and cash income streams.  You will also develop and deliver plans to recruit participants cost-effectively to grow our challenge events database and income.

  • A track record of successful direct marketing/individual giving at senior level using a range of channels (Face to face and Digital experience critical)
  • Experience in leading and managing a team.
  • Proven experience of growing a programme of activity to deliver income and supporter database growth
  • Able to propose, develop, implement and review strategic and annual plans and budgets effectively.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • A creative thinker able to direct and produce appeals and initiatives. 
  • Analytical and able to forecast and present detailed financial management information accurately and appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong relationship developer, with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Effective under pressure.
  • Organised approach to planning a significant workload and a good time manager.
  • Knowledge of prize led fundraising and associated rules and regulations of the Gambling Act
