Why I fundraise for a charity that supports children and saves lives

Milly Ainsworth, Cowes Branch Manager for Isle of Wight estate agent Pittis, started raising money for Action Medical Research because she wants to give something back after witnessing for herself the important work carried out.

The reason I decided to host events for Action Medical Research is mainly because I have a little sister who has cerebral palsy. Even though it is not as bad as other families have to deal with, I do know first-hand what families goes through to make sure they have the best life and do not miss out on things and I wanted to give something back to a charity that helps children and saves and changes lives.

Without the medical health system, my sister would not be living a normal life and have gone through school normally and this means a great deal to me.

Over the last few years, we’ve hosted and been involved with several events including an Easter egg hunt, a charity fun night, a triathlon and a visit from Paddington Bear at Cowes Week, and we raised just over £1,000 for Action during 2015!

The triathlon saw lots of the team get involved – including my dad who was very keen to do his bit for the charity and flew in from Jersey to do the whole thing. I swam, ran and cycled with my husband, raising £200. Lucy Dexter, who helps me with all our events in Cowes, was hugely behind everything and also raised over £100 for the triathlon.

Paddington Bear visited the office during the sailing regatta Cowes Week in August and helped us raise donations.

I really enjoy the whole process: the organising, the support from others and, most importantly, giving back to others.

It makes it all worthwhile to give money to a great charity from people having a good time and willing to open their wallets for such a fantastic cause.
