Time to Race The Sun

Published on

Updated:

Action’s Race The Sun events return this summer, once again giving teams and individuals the chance to cycle, trek and canoe their way around a fully marshalled course. MCS Ltd are a Bristol based independently owned building services contractor. They’re fielding three teams to take on the challenge in Brecon Beacons on Saturday 23 June. Emily Langston, 28, tells is why they’re so keen to get involved…

So, 3 teams from MCS Ltd… will this be everyone’s first Race The Sun event?

Yes it will be and we can’t wait! We heard about the challenge through word of mouth from another company we work with; our MD Scott Hill was then on the case to recruit at least one team to enter the event and he managed to find quite a few willing participants!

I was definitely up for doing it, but found out shortly after signing up that I was pregnant with baby number two! I’ll still be there every step of the way though to help fundraise and support the teams.

Hey, congratulations!

Thank you! Being a Mum, I just think the work Action does is amazing. It’s really important to all of us to hit our fundraising target of £10,000. We’ve arranged a couple of additional events to help beat that figure. Knowing that the money will go towards funding some vital research to help poorly children means a great deal to the staff here.

That’s amazing, thank you. Tell us more about your event nights…

Well, we held a quiz night and raffle on Friday 23rd March, which was amazing! There were around 100 people there and we raised more than £1,000

The BIG event is the ‘MCS Charity Ball’ which is taking place on Saturday 5th May 2018 at Tortworth Court Hotel.  I have arranged a 3 course dinner for each guest as well as a magician, a DJ and a Bollywood dance act to perform on the evening. We have all worked together to get some excellent items that we are going to auction off. Hopefully it’ll be a sell out!

Is everyone training hard for the challenge?

Ha - I know everyone’s quite nervous but very excited; they have all started training regimes (some more than others!). We also have a few dates in our diaries to do some practice walks and cycles together and may even be heading to ‘Symonds Yat’ for a team building/practice day in the canoes!! I think on the day the adrenaline will be running and with all the other teams there morale will be so high it will be an enjoyable day.

Why should other people sign up for the Race The Sun events?

Everyone that is fit and able should give this race a go! It is for a very worthy, amazing charity that does so much for young children and babies. The challenge is a great team-building exercise for both small and large companies that really brings a working environment closer; I have already seen this first hand in the build-up and fundraising for our race this June! Give it a go, push yourself and help Action save tiny lives.
