A trio of challenges being launched by children’s charity Action Medical Research will take fundraising to new heights in 2017 with participants encouraged to tackle testing climbs in the UK.
Action Medical Research is on the hunt for participants keen to combine a love of the outdoors with raising vital funds to help save and change children’s lives with its three tough climbing opportunities at Snowdon, the Yorkshire Three Peaks and Ben Nevis.
The climbs kick off on Saturday, 10 June, at Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales which stands at 1,085m above sea level. Then there will be a sponsored climb in Yorkshire on Saturday, 17 June, on the mighty mountains of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. And finally, there's the chance to conquer Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles at 1,344m above sea level, on Saturday, 9 September.
You can walk all or part of the series, either individually or in a team, racing the clock or taking in the views; all those who take part will get medical support, experienced mountain guides, celebratory food and drink, and an Action Medical Research medal when they finish.
“After the success of our Ben Nevis climb in September, on which 50 climbers of all abilities raised nearly £16,000, we wanted to extend the challenge to offer something fresh for 2017,” says Action Medical Research’s Challenge Events Manager Oly Watts.
“Our new Mountain Series is ideal for companies looking for a lively way to put staff through their paces or you can go it alone, which means you can set your own pace knowing you’ll have the full support of our crew all along the way.
“This is a chance to see some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK plus you can feel on top of the world in the knowledge that you're raising funds for much-needed research.”
For more than 60 years Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world. Research they’ve funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.
Action Medical Research is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
There are two options for Action Medical Research's Snowdon and Ben Nevis climbs: the fundraising option, which includes a £40 registration fee and participants must commit to raising £200; or the self-payment option, with a £40 registration fee and a one-off payment of £150. For the Yorkshire Three Peaks, registration is £50 and participants must commit to raising £230; or the self-payment option, with a £50 fee and a one-off payment of £170.
