Action Medical Research’s ‘Champions of Cyclesport’ dinner, which is kindly sponsored by Garmin, is going extreme!

The children’s charity - which has a longstanding connection with the cycling world – regularly attracts a whole host of elite athletes to its annual fundraising gala.

And this year’s tenth anniversary at the Hurlingham Club in London will be no different.

Representing the world of Downhill Mountain biking – and making their ‘Champs Dinner’ debut- will be Rachel and Gee Atherton.

The siblings, who between them have amassed a blinding tally of titles including 8 Down Hill World Championships, say they are super excited to be coming.

“We’ve both heard a lot about Action’s Champs dinner” says Rachel. “To be invited is a real honour. We’re just looking forward to meeting a lot of cycling enthusiasts and helping to raise some vital funds.”

Her brother Gee agrees: “Action is one of those charities that very few people have heard of and yet its work has had such an impact on so many generations of people across the UK.

“I’m excited that Rachel and I both get to attend out first Champions of Cyclesport and do our bit to help make a difference.”

Joining Rachel and Gee Atherton will be Shanaze Reade. Shanaze is a three time UCI BMX World Champion & two time Team Sprint World Champion on the track.

Making his return to the celebrity line-up will be Martyn Ashton. The former World Expert BikeTrial Champion has won numerous British Biketrial national titles and has even been inducted into the Mountain Biking UK Hall Of Fame.

The long-time supporter of Action Medical Research explains why he keeps coming back to the Champs Dinner: “We are all benefitting from what Action does. You hear about their work on the night and you are (will be) touched by the stories you hear. It is something you feel honoured to have supported on that special evening.”

A full list of attending champions can be seen elsewhere on the Action website.

Action’s Senior Partnerships Development Manager – and the event organiser - Sarah Stevenson says she can’t wait for this year’s gala: “The Champs Dinner is without doubt one of our key annual fundraising events and this year – our tenth anniversary – will be really special.

“So far our champions and guests have helped raise more than £1.6 million which has gone on to fund vital medical research across the UK. I can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and look forward to seeing new and familiar faces later this month!”

This year’s event is being held on Thursday 21 November at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham.

Guests will enjoy a drinks reception followed by a three course dinner and entertainment.

A live auction will be offering some money-can’t-buy prizes including a Scott Addict 30 Disc bike, a signed and framed Connor Swift jersey and Mark Beaumont’s ‘Around The World In 80 Days’ bike pedals.

The Champions of Cyclesport dinner is proudly supported by Garmin, Rouleur and BDO
