Children’s charity to benefit from Buggy Fitness donations

A Maidstone fitness expert is showing her support for Action Medical Research by donating 10 per cent of her next Buggy Fitness course fees to the UK-wide children’s charity.

Emma Goodman (pictured above), who chairs the charity’s Mid-Kent Committee, is launching a “bigger and better” six-week course at Mote Park on Monday, 22 February, and says she was keen to boost the charity’s coffers as well as the health and fitness of new mothers.

“I love being outside in nature, not only is it great for your soul but your physical fitness will also improve,” explains Emma, who has been running Buggy Fitness classes for almost nine years.

“Having a new baby is hard work and sometimes very daunting, but a walk in the park with other mums is a great way to make new friends, share ideas and experiences.

“I encourage you and your baby to join us for some 'you time'.  Take things at your own pace and be refreshed and energised.  Don't worry if your baby cries, they all do at one time or another. You can always stop and see to your little one as you need to.”

Paula Ray, Action Medical Research’s Community Fundraising Manager for the region, says: “We’re so grateful to Emma for her ongoing support and delighted that she’s going to be donating a tenth of the Buggy Fitness fees to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

“The classes sound perfect for those keen to get back into fitness after having a baby – and why not sign up for our Castle Ride 100 to motivate you even more? This is one of our charity cycling sportives and we’re expecting more than 1,000 cyclists to depart from Tonbridge Castle to pedal through the challenging North Downs on a brand new route for 2016.”

The hugely popular Castle Ride on Sunday, 15 May, offers three options: a 32-mile route, which is great if you’re new to cycling; a Classic 69-mile option, the perfect introduction to distance riding; or the tougher Champion route, which covers 100 miles - ideal for experienced sportive riders.

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The children’s charity is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
