Cycling Club Celebrates Fundraising Milestone

Published on

Updated:

Kevin Dunn, a married father of two from Bristol, has helped raise more than £40,000 for Action Medical Research after creating his own cycling club.

‘BS10’ was launced in 2015.

The 38-year-old has always been interested in sport. He once enjoyed a trial at ‘Bristol City’ and has also laced up his rugby boots for ‘Bristol Saracens’.

Since the cycling club's inception, Kevin and his fellow team members (now over 100 of them) have taken part in numerous fundraising cycle challenges. He explains why he wanted to help the charity: “When our youngest daughter Aimee was born she had a few complications that led to her being in intensive care. We were one of the lucky ones that left with our child. It is terribly sad when you know and get to know people that don't.

“I became aware of the charity and its purpose to help fund research into a range of childhood illnesses and felt I had to do something - no matter how small - to try and help.”

His next big challenge will be the ‘Action London to Paris’ this year from 19 July – 23 July.

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
