Media doctor Dawn Harper - best-known as one of the co-presenters on Channel Four’s popular Embarrassing Illnesses and Embarrassing Bodies series – is supporting the 2018 Action Medical Research ‘Cream Teas’ campaign.
The fundraiser, which sees thousands of cream teas being delivered direct to doors, is back for its fifth year and is being supported by Action’s celebrity Ambassador, media doctor Dr Dawn Harper.
“I’ve been supporting Action for more than a decade now”, says the GP and TV presenter. “I think this fundraiser is such a fantastic way to not only raise funds but also awareness for such an amazing cause. Order a box of cream teas, enjoy them with friends, family or work colleagues and just think what a difference your donation could make.”
Each box costs £6 (minimum order of 10 boxes) and includes:
- 2x classic plain scones
- A jar of Rodda's Cornish clotted cream (40g)
- 2x jars of Tiptree strawberry conserve (28g)
- Yorkshire tea
- A knife and serviette
Head of Community Fundraising and Major Giving David Graham said: “The Action Cream Teas campaign continues to go from strength to strength and we really hope to beat last year’s total.
“Action is very fortunate to have some amazing celebrity supporters and we are delighted Dr Dawn Harper has agreed to help promote this year’s initiative.
“We would encourage anyone and everyone to put 28 June in their diary so that they can take five minutes to enjoy a delicious snack, knowing that their kind donations will be helping to save tiny lives.”
Last year the campaign raised more than £55,000.
Approximately 9,470 boxes were individually packed by volunteers and sent out across the UK.
The delivery included roughly 18,940 scones, 9,470 teabags, 379kg of Clotted Cream and more than 1,000kg of strawberry jam to give supporters everything they needed for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.
The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
