One Stop raises over £27,000 for Action Medical Research

Updated:

Generous One Stop customers and colleagues have raised more than £27,000 to help save and change children’s lives.

The UK-wide campaign, supporting children’s charity Action Medical Research, ran during May and saw some 781 One Stop stores place Paddington BearTM-themed collection boxes on their countertops to raise vital funds, with many also running raffles to boost the coffers.

The retail convenience business has now raised more than £150,000 for Action Medical Research over the past five years, thanks to the generosity of customers and staff’s impressive fundraising efforts.

“We are delighted with the amount once again raised by One Stop to support our fight for little lives," says Toby Tennant, Head of Relationship Fundraising for Action Medical Research.

“Medical research for children is underfunded in the UK. For every project the charity funds there’s another one we have to turn away – simply because of a lack of funds.

“There are hundreds of thousands of children in the UK whose lives are devastated by disease and disability. We need support to fund vital research to develop new treatments and cures for sick babies and children which is why fundraising like this is so important to us.”

Tracey Clements, CEO of One Stop, adds: “"One Stop is proud to again support the vital research which Action Medical Research  funds.

"Our key focus is being the best neighbourhood store for our customers, which is why we're helping to make a real difference to local communities by supporting this charity. The funds raised by the collection boxes will help Action Medical Research continue to fund medical breakthroughs that help sick and disabled children, an area that continues to be underfunded in the UK.”

For more than 60 years Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world. Research they’ve funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.

Action Medical Research is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
