A new fundraising challenge being launched by children’s charity Action Medical Research will see participants racing by bike, on foot and in canoes across the Isle of Wight to help save and change children’s lives.
Action Medical Research is on the hunt for participants keen to combine a love of the outdoors with raising vital funds on this brand new event for 2017.
The Race the Sun Isle of Wight race on Saturday, 8 July, will join the charity’s highly popular sister events in the Lake District and the Brecon Beacons.
Teams of four will start from Newport at dawn to cycle 44 miles, trek 12 miles along the Tennyson trail from The Needles and canoe 1.5km along the River Medina before the sun sets.
“After the phenomenal success of our Race the Sun challenges in the Lake District and Brecon Beacons, we are delighted to announce the launch of Race the Sun Isle of Wight for 2017,” says Action Medical Research’s Challenge Events Manager Oly Watts.
“This will be such a fun event with the chance to spend the day cycling, walking and canoeing in some seriously beautiful surroundings plus you'll be joining our fight for little lives and raising funds for much-needed research.”
For more than 60 years Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world. Research they’ve funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.
Action Medical Research is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
Registration is £195 for a team of four and each team must commit to raising £1,800 in sponsorship.
