Real family stories that inspire us every day

As a children’s charity we’re working with families across the country who know what it’s like to receive heartbreaking news and cope with ongoing worry about the health and wellbeing of their children – yet whose ability to find comfort, courage, hope and happiness even in the darkest of times is truly inspiring.

One mum, whose twin boys and youngest daughter, who is just seven years old, have been diagnosed with a devastating and, tragically, fatal rare disease, says simply: “We gain our strength from the children.” 

Another parent, whose first baby endured life-saving open heart surgery at just eight hours old, speaks of her ‘happy, smiley four year old’ – and hopes that other families will one day benefit from research Action is funding to help babies with the rare heart condition that affects her little girl, who faces further surgery with all the risks this involves.

Resilience is embodied beautifully by one ten-year-old whose story we’re honoured to share with our supporters. After being diagnosed with a brain tumour and losing her hair twice following gruelling treatment, this young lady is determined to become a hairdresser when she grows up. Described by her mother as ‘creative and very, very determined,’ we have a feeling she will achieve her dream.
