Bedfordshire teenager cuts off her long hair for Action

This past weekend, Sharnbrook teenager Ella Morgan bravely had her long locks cut for charity.

The 18-year-old, who has always kept her hair long, had 20 inches cut at Daniel Granger Hairdressing in Nottingham on Saturday 10 August.

“I actually really like it” admits the part-time care home worker. “I was so worried I wouldn’t. I’ve never worn my hair this short but, yeah, I think it looks good.”

Ella decided to go for the chop earlier this summer when her older sister Charlotte encouraged her to do it for charity.

“I had been thinking about cutting my hair for a while, but Charlotte helped me make up my mind when she suggested doing it as a fundraiser.

“I’m just delighted to have been able to show my support for Action Medical Research.”

Action is a charity close to Ella’s heart.

Her nephew Harper, Charlotte’s son, was born with mild cerebral palsy after suffering a stroke in the womb at just 24-weeks.

Now 19-months old, Ella describes him as the “happiest little boy I know”.

Setting herself a target of £500, Ella hopes it’ll go towards funding future cures for all sorts of conditions.

Tracy Stratford is Action’s Community Fundraiser for the East of England: “On behalf of the charity, I would just like to thank Ella for her brave and thoughtful challenge.

“The money raised will indeed go towards our fight for tiny lives. Every penny really can make a difference. We’re so grateful for everyone’s generosity and delighted that Ella’s pleased with her fabulous new look!”

Ella will be donating her cut hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity for children and young adults who have lost their hair from cancer treatment or other reasons.

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

Action is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, epilepsy, asthma, scarlet fever, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
