DON’T LET RESEARCH STOP
“How do you tell him that he won’t marry his little girlfriend from school because he probably won’t be around by then? This research is our only hope.”
- Rebecca, mum of Tom
Give hope to families like Tom's
We’ve been funding life-changing research to help sick babies and children since 1952 – searching for answers that have led to cures, treatments and medical breakthroughs, saving countless lives.
Research gives hope to families facing some of the toughest experiences life can deal you. And while these families wait for medical breakthroughs, vulnerable children are especially threatened by the current pandemic.
Our income is suffering because of Covid-19, putting research at risk. But right now, medical research has never been needed more. For families like Tom’s, research can be the only hope. We cannot stop searching for cures.
Tom has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare and fatal condition that causes muscle weakness, and a relentless deterioration in physical abilities. Treatments can help but there is currently no cure. Research is the only hope.
For Tom research could mean he walks and keeps upper body skills such as feeding himself for longer, giving him a better quality of life. I know it’s not a cure, but these potential treatments still mean everything to us, they give us hope and they might give us time. They take us a step closer to finding out more about this rare disease.
Right now, medical breakthroughs have never been needed more. We cannot stop.
