Updated:

September 2024 sees the seventh edition of the annual bike ride for the construction and built environment sector – ‘Ziggurat’. Riders will come together in Tuscany to help raise funds and awareness for children’s charity Acton Medical Research.

Action Medical Research is very grateful to be supported by lead sponsor Brett, as well as sponsored by key leaders in the construction industry including Day Group, Maylim, Herbosch-Kiere and for the first time, SIG. Ziggurat provides people working in the industry an opportunity to network and raise funds to support medical research for sick babies and children.

The cyclists are representing a number of companies including additional teams from Velocity Magazine, Willmott Dixon, and Baxall Construction, amongst many others. The cycling networking tour will see around 60 riders cycle over 235 miles, climbing 17,000 feet from Pisa to Lucca on a fully supported four-day ride through the stunning yet challenging Tuscan countryside.

Thomas O’Mahony, MD of Maylim Limited said: "This will be the third year we have taken part in this incredible event that not only provides an excellent platform to network in the built environment but also raise money for a really amazing charity. We are very proud to be a partner on Ziggurat".

We are delighted that SIG will join our key partners Brett, Day Group, Maylim, SIG and Herbosch-Kiere to make this special event possible and raise funds towards our vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people.”

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
