X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP) is a devastating rare condition that almost exclusively affects boys and puts them at serious risk of developing life-threatening infections, as well as a type of cancer called lymphoma.
Currently, the only available treatment is a bone marrow transplant, but finding a well-matched donor, at the right time, isn’t always possible. Sadly, without treatment, 70% of children with XLP lose their lives by the age of 10.
We will NEVER stop fighting for children with rare diseases, because we know that whilst a disease might be rare, hope for new treatments and cures that can save lives shouldn’t be. But we cannot do it alone.

Fighting XLP
Rachel and Paul know all too well the heartbreaking consequences XLP has on young lives. Their sons Samuel and James were both diagnosed with the disease and underwent bone marrow transplants to give them the best chance of surviving.
Now five years later, Samuel is doing well but sadly James sustained considerable brain damage. He can walk but not run and struggles to communicate and will sadly need 24/7 care for the rest of his life.
It’s difficult to explain or put into words just how huge a rollercoaster dealing with XLP has been for everyone.
