Lendlease supports Action Medical Research
Action Medical Research is delighted to announce it has now received an extremely generous £10,000 donation as a result of December’s ‘Lendlease Guvnors Club’ Christmas Charity Ball.
The Guvnors Club is a social club within the property and construction company, Lendlease. The Guvnors Club, which has been going for 87 years, organises various events for its members and raises money for charity. Lendlease is an international company involved in the development of communities, inner city mixed use developments, apartments, retirement, retail, commercial assets and social and economic infrastructure.
Last December (2016) more than 800 guests attended the stunning Old Billingsgate in London and enjoyed a ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’ themed evening. The memorable festivities included live music, a casino and even edible table decorations!
Action Medical Research was one of the lucky beneficiaries and on 6 April Senior Partnerships Development Manager Sarah Stevenson collected the cheque from the Chairman of the Guvnor’s Club, Andy Lee. Speaking afterwards, Andy said: “We always like to pick causes that are close to the hearts of the guests at the Ball. Given that Action funds research to help babies and children, we knew it would strike a chord with our guests.
“The charity’s story touched everyone who was at the Ball and so we were very happy to support them this year.”
The money will go towards research into a rare genetic illness called neurofibromatosis type two (NF2), which tends to be diagnosed during childhood and early adulthood.1 People with NF2 develop multiple tumours of the nervous system. Some patients may have as many as 20–30 tumours altogether.2 Although they’re not cancerous, these tumours can cause distressing symptoms including hearing loss, speech impairment, balance problems and paralysis.
Sarah said: “We were absolutely thrilled to learn that we would be benefitting from this charity ball and we cannot thank the Lendlease Guvnors Club enough – as well as everyone who donated their money.”
Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.
The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
