Action Medical Research makes shortlist in the 2020 Charity Film Awards

Updated:

Elijah’s Story, a short film created by Horsham-based children’s charity Action Medical Research, has been unveiled on the shortlist for the 2020 Charity Film Awards.

The Charity Film Awards celebrates the effective use of video by the third sector to change mindsets, raise awareness for the charity or raise funds.

65,000 people took part in the public voting stage to determine the shortlist and 400 films were entered. Now a panel of expert judges, which includes high profile names from entertainment, business, politics and media, will decide the finalists.

The winners of the Charity Film Awards 2020 will be announced a gala ceremony in central London, in the spring.

The five-minute film shares the heartbreaking experiences of the Halse family whose son Elijah, born extremely prematurely, died at just 37 days old.

Funded by Action Medical Research, Professor Rachel Tribe and her team at King’s College London are working to develop a new screening test that can help identify pregnant women who are at increased risk of early delivery.

In the film, Professor Tribe describes her hopes to save more babies’ lives: “If we can develop a new test for women in early pregnancy, identifying those at risk would enable appropriate steps to be taken to protect their baby from being born too soon.”

Action Medical Research worked with charity specialist content agency, Inspired Films, to create this very special short film.

Action’s Director of Communications, Sarah Moss, said: “This film lies at the heart of our Born Too Soon campaign and the work we are doing as a charity to help prevent this heartache for families in the future.”

Inspired Films Director Louis Paltnoi said: “We are delighted that this very special film has reached the Charity Film Awards shortlist. It’s particularly moving and memorable, thanks to the courage and openness of the Halse family and the tireless work of Action Medical Research to help prevent premature birth.”

Simon Burton, Co-Founder of the Charity Film Awards said: ‘In the digital age, charities’ use of video is fundamental to engage the hearts and minds of their communities. Elijah’s Story is a great example of that in action.”
